New Traffic Laws
Today, a new traffic law was implemented along Commonwealth Avenue, also known as the “Killer Highway” of QC because of the multitude of road accidents happening left and right. This is a major concern for us because we pass by this road whenever we go out. For the husband, this is the only highway he passes through whenever he goes to and from the office everyday. They have implemented a 60 kph speed limit to all vehicles and allotted special lanes for busses and jeeps. For the speed limit, the authorities are using the special radar equipment with a spotting scope lent by NLEX. With these new laws, hopefully, there will be no more road accidents that will claim lives and cause injuries.
Career Possibilities with a Cosmetology Degree
Many people have this notion that Beauty Schools are just limited to producing hairdressers and make up artists. It’s actually more than just that. There are several career possibilities that the broad field of Cosmetology can offer. Aside from hairdressers and make up artists, massage therapists, chiropractors, make up and cosmetics salespersons, beauty magazine writers and researchers, makeup photographer, nail artist – all these may have further their interest and honing their skills by earning a degree in a cosmetology school such as the Regency Beauty Institute. Founded in Minneapolis, this school is the fastest growing beauty school now having 80 campuses across the US. Their exceptional curriculum yielded highly skilled graduates that are very in demand in salons, runways and even cruise ships.

2 Years
January 6 marks my son’s nanny’s 2nd year of stay with us. Yes, she’s been with us for that long already and I’m grateful. I say that it’s long because very seldom nowadays that you can find nannies and household helpers who can stay with you for a long time. In fact, a number of fellow moms in an online community group I’m a member of always find themselves in that dilemma…nanny hunt. I must say that we have a nice employer-subordinate relationship thus, she feels she doesn’t have a reason to leave. We treat her like she’s among our family members – we let her rest after all tasks are done, we don’t belittle her (meaning, we don’t treat her JUST a “maid”), she eats the food we eat, etc. In fact, she’s been gaining weight and we’ve been joking if we’re supposed to give her alli pills as part of her benefits. Of course, she also has imperfections once in a while but generally, she’s really good in taking care of my son and for that, I’m thankful because of the great assistance she’s giving me.
Joy in Unwrapping Gifts
Christmas indeed the season for kids. I can still vividly picture how my son was so happy upon unwrapping the big gift Santa gave him on Christmas Eve. He wished for a drum set and custom laptops for kids and he got a drum set complete with snare and bass drums. He hit it immediately like there’s no tomorrow. He’s at the stage already when he can find delight in tearing the gift wrappers as he excitedly wonders what it could be inside. Perhaps, if he’d just be ask, he will also wish that everyday’s a Christmas Day. Don’t we all wish that, too?
2011 Resolutions
I bookmark an inspiring blog post from a fellow Mommy blogger, Chris (chrischronicles.com), and it’s about 2011 Resolutions. She got a good list of guidelines from My Mom Friday that would be helpful everyone to achieve a successful, wise and the best 2011 one could ever have.
Here are the guidelines:
Health
01. Drink plenty of water.
02. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper
03. Live with the 3 E’s: Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy.
04. Make time to pray.
05. Play more games.
06. Read more books than you did in 2010.
07. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
08. Sleep for 7 hours each day.
09. Take a 10-30 minutes walk daily. And while you walk, smile.
Personality
10. Know your limits.
11. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
12. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip.
13. Dream more while you are awake.
14. Envy is a waste of time; you already have all you need.
15. Forget issues of the past don’t remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.
16. Life is too short to waste time hating others.
17. Make peace with your past and accept your mistakes. We’re only human.
18. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
19. Smile and laugh more often.
20. You don’t have to win every argument, agree to disagree.
Society
21. Call your family and friends more often.
22. Each day give something good to others.
23. Forgive everyone for everything, even thought it’s hard!
24. Spend time with people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.
25. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
26. What other people think of you is none of your business. Who cares?
Life
27. Do the right thing!
28. TIME heals everything.
29. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
30. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
Very inspiring and inviting list, isn’t it? Having gone through a sickly December, I think I’d be most particular with Health this year so yes, I’ll take note of the first 9 items listed. It did not mention anything about diet pills but for sure, people, especially those who are in the heavy side are called to lose weight for a better and healthier 2011.
Thank you, Mommy Chris, for sharing the link and the guidelines.
