When purchasing an auto insurance policy, many drivers never read the fine print. They may be in for a surprise when they decide to travel afar. While each policy will cover the driver and car in the purchaser’s home country, a policy may not extend to any or every foreign country.

If you must go into one of the countries designated as particularly dangerous for car theft and damage, it would be smart to rent a car instead of using your own. With a car rental, the leasing agency should be able to provide separate car insurance options at an additional cost. While this will add to the cost of your rental, it will protect your financial interests.
